WHAT IS CHEMICAL ETCHING?
Chemical etching is the process of using corrosive chemicals to remove metal locally from a sheet, leaving the shape of the desired component behind.
Material | Thickness range | Maximum Size | Surface Finish | Typical Applications |
---|---|---|---|---|
Aluminium | 0.01mm-1.5mm | 600x1500mm | Free from stresses and burrs |
|
Titanium | 0.01mm-1.5mm | 600x1500mm | Free from stresses and burrs | |
Stainless steel | 0.01mm-2.5mm | 600x1500mm | Free from stresses and burrs | |
Nickel Alloys | 0.01mm-1.5mm | 600x1500mm | Free from stresses and burrs | |
Copper | 0.01mm-1.5mm | 600x1500mm | Free from stresses and burrs |
Precise Tooling
The photo-tool artwork for photo chemical etching is free of charge here at Xinhaisen, as we like to invest in our customers future.
Risk-Free Design
With the ability to produce rapid prototypes with short lead times, the complexity of your design is often not an issue. We will manufacture to your required drawings and to your exacting standards.
Right First Time
The chemical etching process does not use mechanical force or heat, which means that the metals properties remain unchanged. The temper of material is also not altered and parts are completely burr-free and stress-free.
No Finishing Required
Our metal etching process leaves no rough edges or burrs, therefore no additional deburring process is often required.
A variety of Thicknesses
A huge variety of different material types and thicknesses can be photo etched, ranging from 0.0127mm through to 1.60mm thick.
Tolerances From ±0.025mm
As your components features are all etched simultaneously, the complexity achievable can be impressive with profile tolerances achievable from ±0.025mm.
Low-cost tooling and unlimited complexity for a range of filtration applications.
Xinhaisen offers an advanced chemical etching service for manufacturing filters, sieves and screens, outperforming traditional perforating techniques with greater speed, flexibility and cost-effectiveness.
Filters, screens and sieves play a crucial role within numerous engineering applications by separating solids from liquids or particles of different sizes. Stamping is the most widely used manufacturing process for perforating metal sheets due to its cost efficiency in large-scale production runs. However, it does have limitations, such as its limited flexibility, restricted customisation options for complex design, expensive tooling, constrained material choice and the potential for burrs and stresses.
We maintain a comprehensive material stock comprising of standard and specialist grades, offering thicknesses that range from 0.010mm to 2.5mm
Can we have mixed components on one sheet?
This is possible but only if all the parts are made from the same material and will be ordered in the same quantity ratio in the future.
Do you have to use tabs to hold components in sheets?
It is preferable to hold the components together whilst they are in the etching machine. It is also essential if the parts need electroplating to give a good electrical connection. For special i.e. microwave applications where smooth edges are required we can process the parts singularly but at extra cost.
Can you offer other services, forming, plating, heat-treating?
Xinhaisen provides a full range of engineering skills and can offer complex formed components either singularly or on Tape and Reel. We offer all regular plating finishes; Tin, tin-lead, nickel, gold, silver. We can offer certificated lab reports to confirm plating thicknesses. We sub contract heat-treating to a local approved company.
If we need a non-standard thickness can you etch thicker sheet down?
If you require a non-standard thickness or one that is not immediately available from stock then we can etch down a thicker material to meet your requirements. Please discuss this option with our Sales Team, telephone them on +8617879687698 or susan@xinhsen.com
Can you guarantee plating thicknesses and solderability?
Yes, we are unique in our field, in that we have a complete British Standard 9000 laboratory with micro sectioning, solderability, accelerated ageing, chemical analysis, porosity and XRF plating thickness-measuring facilities. We have nationally certified calibrated shadowgraphs and can offer first item inspection reports with C of C.
Are you able to etch onto shaped items or already manufactured parts?
Unfortunately the answer to that is no, we process flat sheets of metal through conveyorized machines, so shaped items or already manufactured parts would not be able to be processed. Also, we would not be able to apply our photo-resist to such items or apply our photo tooling.
Low Cost Digital Tooling
The photo tool is more efficient and far less expensive than typical hard tooling.
No Hard Tooling
No major investment, no tooling delivery delay and no tool maintenance and repair costs required.
No Metal Stress Or Part Deformation
Etched metal parts remain flat as the metal removal is achieved chemically, not mechanically.
Burr Free
Secondary deburring operations are eliminated.
Material Properties
The temper of metal is not changed, thus the magnetic property is not affected. Xinhaisen has developed more techniques than any other chemical etching company to produce etched metal parts in a range of innovative materials.
Excellent precision, repeatability, accuracy and a quick turnaround.
Engineering changes and modifications can be made quickly, easily and cost effectively.
